Why Unsubscribers Are Good For You

You are probably thinking… “What?!”

Wondering why I would say people who opt out of your list is a good thing? Read on…

People lose interest. When someone joined your list they were excited and motivated to find out more about you and what you had to offer. It’s very difficult to sustain that level of engagement over time. Even if you’re cranking out excellent content and value consistently – some people just lose interest and move on. Nothing you can do about it. The longer the time, the more likely they will lose interest and eventually decide to opt out.

Be OK with that…

People opt out after a period of time with consistent non-activity. We all do it. We scan our email inbox or folders and decide to ourselves if we want to stay on that list… or not. It’s like spring cleaning or going through your closet and tossing what you don’t need and keeping what you do. The longer the stuff lingers in the closet or attic – the more likely it will get tossed. People view your list in the same way. We all have to try and rise above the clutter and remain front and center. Over time if we don’t meet our end of the bargain – they’re likely to opt out like last years jeans.

Be OK with that…

It’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. People opt out for a reason. It’s our job reason to have the awareness as to why they do opt out and figure out what can be done differently to avoid more people leaving in the future. Been through an extensive launch with a lot of “sales” and “pitch” emails? – you’re opt out rate will for sure increase to an extent. Starting to slack and not churn out the solid content that your subscribers are traditionally used to? Get back on it and whip it into shape. People who opt out should be seen like a red flag that something is not right – and you need to address it the best you can.

Be OK with that…

Focus on gaining the new people. The rate of people who unsubscribe is all relative to the number of new people who join your list. Focus on that and it will make the reality of people unsubscribing easy to deal with. Don’t look at your unsubscribe numbers -focus on the overall list size. People will leave your list at some point.

Be OK with that…

I’m happy when people opt out because then it cleans up my list and I can rely on more realistic and truthful statistics and analytics like open rates and click-through-rates. Dormant subscribers who never opt out (and never read your emails) are just skewing your numbers. I say “you know where the door is, leave whenever you want to…”

Be OK with that…

As a result of this – try not to focus on the numbers of your list. Focus on the conversation with your list. Write to one person (not the full list) and you’re more likely to not only keep them around longer – but open and read your emails (which is the idea here, right?)

Listen – the moral of the lesson is this: If people on your list are not opening your emails – why would you want them on your list? Chances are if these people are not opening or reading your emails – they’re not going to buy anyway.

And, with the new social media platforms out there like Facebook and Twitter (and many more) people can easily get your content and value in other places – not just email. My thought is if they move away from email – perhaps they’re moving onto an alternative platform to get my content like my Twitter updates or Facebook status.

Perhaps they’re no longer your ideal client – so be happy they moved on. Say to yourself… “I’m not their teacher. That’s totally cool.”

To shun listing items that no one requests, or items contained by an already flooded market, some investigation is in order. The target of this examination is to acquire your niche on Ebay. With a strong goal to thrive, a keenness to apply a part of your time, and an knowledge that a modest research can create a difference in profitable eBay selling, anyone will be able to succeed. However, that is not what in truth happens.
Many Ebay sellers impart their supplies within individual niche — or a productline that a particular sector or group within the 157 million-member eBay marketplace. SEO Article Submission: 5 of the Biggest Keyword Mistakes (And The Solutions!)

Knowing what your keywords are is essential for you to get the best results possible out of article marketing, but you also need to know the proper way to use these words in your article submission. If you don’t, you can end up making some of these common keyword mistakes. If you’ve taken any of these missteps don’t worry–I’m about to give you some article marketing tips for how to easily fix them!

1 – Listing keywords in your content. Sometimes I’ll see people just putting a long list of key phrases in their article, which is a definite no-no. First of all, you don’t need to use every one of your keywords in an article. Second, whenever you use a keyword term, it needs to read as a natural part of a sentence so that the person who is reading the article wouldn’t even notice that you’re targeting a particular keyword phrase.

2 – The over-optimized article. I’m sure you’ve seen content online that is so full of a certain word or phrase that the article is hard to understand. When you’re targeting a particular phrase, you don’t need to use it repeatedly in your article–just use it moderately, maybe in the first paragraph, and then letting the term pop up naturally in the rest of the article in various forms. There is not much point to creating a piece of content that is unreadable. Your primary concern is always to provide helpful information to your readers, rather than focusing totally on search engines.

3 – Re-using the same title for different articles. Creating titles takes thought, and sometimes it may be tempting to take the easy route and come up with one keyword optimized title to use over and over again. You shouldn’t do this for a few reasons: => For one thing, the title needs to reflect the topic of the article, and although you’re writing on the same general topic, each article you write should offer fresh information. Different articles require different titles.

=> For another thing, if many of your articles bear the same or very similar titles, it can be off-putting to publishers and readers alike. Publishers are less likely to publish multiple articles with the same title by the same author, because it looks like the same article has been submitted repeatedly. As a reader, if you were to be looking at an article directory and saw a list of titles that were basically the same, what motivation would you have to read more than one of them? Not much, because you would assume that the articles all had pretty much the same information.

The moral of the story is: Create a new title for each article and make it specifically reflect the topic of the article!

4 – Spelling and/or grammar issues when using your keyword phrase. When people do searches in Google and the other search engines, sometimes they are not too careful about spelling and grammar–they’re just doing a quick search, and they may make a typo or grammar error. If you find that one of your keyword phrases has a spelling or grammar error in it, don’t use that phrase in your title or article body. Including errors decreases the quality of your article.

5 – Telling the reader to search for a certain phrase in Google. This is a really lazy way to include your keyword terms in an article, and readers and publishers can see straight through it. Telling a reader to search for a particular term in Google is totally unnecessary and self-serving. Readers already know how to search for information in Google, and it’s obvious that the only reason you would give such an instruction would be to get your keywords in the article. You can do better than that–take the time to come up with an article that uses your keyword phrase in a natural way.

It takes a little more time and thought, but it’s really the only way to correctly optimize an article.
